Development of IBM offices - Place Ville Marie
In 2017, QMD was contracted to completely renovate the 22nd floor of the Place Ville Marie building in advance of the arrival of a new tenant: IBM Canada.
This project was original because of the nature of the required renovations: the creation of open workspaces and collaboration areas that would allow the tenant to implement a new method (Agile) of planning and delivering projects. This method focuses on the client’s active participation and a quick reaction time by the project team to client demands.
With this in mind, we installed unconventional elements that included unique woodwork, conceptual wood lathes and IDEA Paint which allows employees to write on the walls.
While working on this mandate, we tackled several major challenges. Certain unusual elements (acid-etched frosted glass and unique woodwork) resulted in extended delivery timelines. In addition, access to the construction site was restricted due to contractual requirements in place at the Place Ville Marie building and the busy nature of the area. The works were also carried out beside occupied offices.
QMD had to come up with cost-saving measures in order to stay within the initial budget. Thanks to the highly efficient cooperation of all of our stakeholders, we were able to meet the tight deadline and deliver the project on time so our client was very satisfied with the result.
