Bleu Blanc Bouge rinks
In 2008, the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation contracted QMD to construct a series of outdoor rinks in several underprivileged neighborhoods in Montreal and across Quebec. The project was a celebration of the club’s 100th anniversary and a way to encourage children and young people to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle, which aligns with our company values.
To date, we have completed 10 sports infrastructures in the Montreal Canadiens colours in 6 Montreal neighborhoods (Verdun, NDG, Saint Michel, LaSalle, Montreal North and Ahuntsic-Cartierville) and in Longueuil, Laval, Sherbrooke and Trois-Rivières.
Each location boasts a 17,000 sq. ft. rink, fencing, players' benches and Zamboni access. We installed a tailor-made refrigeration system that allows the rinks to be used throughout the winter.
Completing outdoor construction works presents a series of challenges, but thanks to our expertise, we were able to overcome them. In order to withstand extreme temperatures, the exterior concrete slab had to be of the highest quality, which we promised to deliver. This required particular attention during the concrete curing phase.
We also carried out works in busy parks during the summer, where we were very careful to ensure the safety of users and tried our best not to disturb residents with noise and dust pollution.
These rinks were so popular that the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation decided to extend the project across Quebec in the coming years.
